No, you do not need to pass the theory test before taking driving lessons.

 

However, The DVSA (Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency) advise you do. It is also a good idea to check the next available test dates as they are still very busy.

The DVSA (Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency) states that it takes 45 hours of professional driving lessons and 22 hours of private practice on average to learn to drive.

 

However, the number of driving lessons you should have before taking your driving test varies from person to person. Some take fewer lessons while some take more. The most important thing is to take your test when you feel comfortable, confident, and ready.

 

Your driving instructor will advise you when they think you are ready to take your test, and most people realise when they are ready too. When the time comes, your instructor will discuss with you the best way to prepare you for your test.
